The USAF Air Demonstration Squadron "Thunderbirds" is an aerial demonstration squadron of the United States Air Force. It was established on May 25, 1953 and is based at Nellis Air Force Base in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Thunderbirds squadrons fly U.S. Air Force-marked jets throughout the United States and around the world, performing aerobatic formations and single-jet demonstrations.
The Thunderbirds squadron consists of 12 officers and more than 120 cadets. The service period is 2 years for officers and 3-4 years for cadets. The replacement personnel must be trained every year, and their number is about half of the squadron. This method of alternating old and new ensures the experience of the team.
In addition to aerial performance responsibilities, Thunderbirds squadrons are part of the U.S. Air Force's combat force and can be quickly integrated into a fighter force if needed.
